    Inktober 2021: Second Half

I didn’t end up doing as many prompts as I would have liked to. As time went on, I had ideas that I wasn’t quite able to figure out in my head yet. For example Day 21: OMEN. I sketched out the general image in pencil, but couldn’t quite figure out how to make it work. I didn’t have the image in my head at all; just the idea (more on that later). I set it aside. It was a piece i was going to draw, but it had to wait until I was ready to ink it in or I’m just wasting paper. There were several prompts I still…

    Inktober 2021: First Half

I think this is my fourth? fifth? year of participating in inktober, and my third year or #mabsdrawlloweenclub. This year I finally dropped the bad idea of doing the drawing on the day of instead of starting ahead. So while I’m posting in order, I worked on several pieces ahead of their post date. Life being life, I haven’t been doing every single day. You will be able to see in this set of new pieces that I am working in a very specific style. Day 15 I actually completed in September. It took over a week and I had help from a couple of friends, as I had never…

    My First Album

This is a bit overdue, but that is for another post I may or may not write. Last September, I was approached by Barry Privett of Carbon Leaf to license a piece of artwork of mine for their latest EP that is coinciding with their 25th Anniversary tour. I meant to post this just before they came to Portland in September, but I am posting it now, because better late than never. It is super exciting to see my artwork in so many different forms, and I am super thankful for the opportunity. Find all the merch here.

    Inktober 2017 Day 7

This is a portrait of Willem Dacrowe, Fancy Mammal’s stunt crow wearing a witch’s hat. He’s inspired by my friend Shana who is doing a witch a day for October. See her amazing embroidery work here. 6 x 6 ink on paper. The original is no longer available, but you can find products with his likeness printed on him on my Society6 page.

    Inktober 2017 Day 4 (and 5)

EDITED for an explanation of Day 5.Inktober 2017 days 4 and 5. I know, Inktober is a drawing a day, but I was so so pleased to finish this drawing on day 4 with just 20 minutes to spare, and I stuck it on the scanner, and posted it. Then I noticed so many spots that weren’t done. Most often I don’t do colour. My partner in crime does the colour in most of the artwork we collaborate on, and I usually stick to black and white with the occasional accent, but this drawing *needed* colour. What do I have aside from a few random fancy pens I use to…

    Sometimes You F*ck Up

sometimes you are drawing along, and the drawing is nearly perfect and then you f*ck it up. there is a pause and moment of did i really do that? and it is in ink, and there is no going back. so if you are like me, you cannot crumple up and toss out what was a perfectly good drawing that you spent over two hours on. how to fix it? it isn’t something that can be inked over, so you just have to embrace it, and let the weird ideas just leak out of your head.. and then start over on a new one. in all i drew this poor…
